Federal Veterans Affairs Minister Ken Hehr will be in Prince George on Monday morning to announce plans to reopen the Veterans Affairs office in the city.

The office on Fourth Avenue was one of nine across the country closed in 2012 under the then-governing Conservatives as a cost-cutting measure.

The move was a major sore spot for the local arm of the legion which campaigned to have it reopened.

During the election, the Liberals said they would reopen all nine offices as well as hire 400 new service delivery staff. In a mandate letter to Hehr, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged to reopen all of the offices by May 2017.
