Local businesses will be given a treasure map this week to locate the region's most prominent mining projects.
The map comes in the form of a procurement readiness report that Initiatives Prince George will reveal this week with the Mining Association of B.C. The two partners have invited local firms to learn about the most efficient paths to those potential business connections.
"Report author, John DeGrace, has summarized information he has gathered about the procurement processes of major mining and exploration firms in his report," said Heather Oland, chief executive officer of Initiatives Prince George. "DeGrace will share key findings of his report during the luncheon that will assist local firms in preparing to provide services and supplies for major projects."
Joining DeGrace will be the region's primary provincial geologist, Paul Jago, to provide a summary of the most developed of the upcoming mine projects across the area.
Industry representatives from Taseko Mines Ltd. and Rio Tinto-Alcan will also be on the stage, talking specifically about what they look for in their procurement considerations.
"Mining is having a positive impact on communities and local businesses across the province," said Karina Brino, president and CEO of the Mining Association of B.C. "We are looking forward to connecting with community leaders during B.C. Mining Week in Prince George to outline the progress of mining in the area and also provide them an opportunity to hear about the how the growth opportunities in the mining industry in B.C. can bring benefit the community."
The B.C. Mining Week seminar and luncheon is being held on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Ramada Hotel.
