A fire at PG Sawmill did about $25,000 damage and got into the walls of the planer building before it could be extinguished.
According to Prince George Fire Rescue Service assistant chief Drew Larsen, 16 firefighters made the emergency trip to the mill on Landooz Road just after 2 a.m. Tuesday.
"On arrival first in crews found smoke coming from the planer portion of PG Sawmill and sawmill fire crews had initiated firefighting," Larsen said. "City fire crews assessed the scene and initiated fire suppression on fire spread into the wall of the planner building. The fire was quickly extinguished and mop up continued for about two more hours."
Off-duty firefighters were called in to cover the city while the on-scene crews were occupied at the mill. Three engines, one ladder truck and one rescue truck were deployed. There were no injuries from this incident.
