We now know who’s going to be replacing Henry Reiser as the leader of the College of New Caledonia (CNC) after he announced his retirement last year.
The Prince George post-secondary has introduced Dr. Dennis Johnson as its next President, beginning the new position on Oct. 1, 2019.
Dr. Johnson has an extensive resume, according to a CNC release, coming over after serving two roles with Saskatchewan Polytechnic over the last three years, including Provost and Vice-President Academic, and Vice-President of Strategy and Business Development.
“CNC has been an important pillar in the community for nearly 50 years,” Dr. Johnson elaborated in the same statement. “I am tremendously honoured to serve as CNC’s next president and I look forward to working closely with the board, the community and building relationships with the students, faculty, and staff at CNC.”
He moved away from B.C. after high school, completing his Bachelor’s in Education (Adult Education) from Brock University in Ontario, went further east to earn a Masters of Education (Post-Secondary Studies) from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and capped it all off with a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Saskatchewan.
CNC Board Chair Gil Malfair believes Dr. Johnson’s 29 years of experience will provide strong guidance in his new role.
“CNC’s Board of Governors looks forward to working with Dr. Dennis Johnson and are confident he possesses the expertise to lead the CNC Community in equipping post-secondary learners with the necessary skills that are relevant for the future economy.”
Dr. Johnson’s hiring comes after a search committee was formed in September last year after Reiser officially announced retirement after the 2018-19 academic year.
Reiser leaves after witnessing the largest grad class in school history at over 400 students, roughly 100 more from 2018.
