Every budding health care professional needs their own set of scrubs to get started.
That’s why the College of New Caledonia (CNC) is collecting gently used scrubs for its biannual sale.
Not only do the used scrubs make a big difference for a budding health care professional, but proceeds from the sale also fund CNC’s “Making a Difference” bursary, which has awarded more than $10,000 to students in need.
“This bursary is aptly named because it really does make a difference for our students,” said Nancy Esopenko, instructor of CNC’s Northern Collaborative Baccalaureate Nursing Program in a news release. “We usually give five awards to deserving students in financial need. There was so much support for the sale last year that we’re actually be giving out seven awards this year.”
The sale, in particular, is in need for extra-small, small, and medium-sized scrubs and bottoms and Esopenko is encouraging recent CNC health science graduates to donate their used standardized scrubs to the sale.
“Many of CNC’s programs require students to wear a standardized scrub uniform,” she said. “Often, students don’t wear these scrubs again when they start working. Those scrubs could be a huge benefit for current and future students.”
The scrub sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 4 in the Gathering Place at CNC’s Prince George campus.
Scrubs can be dropped off from Feb. 11 to March 4 at the CNC library or the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation office at the University Hospital of Northern BC.
Donated scrubs must be washed and in usable condition.
