The McMillan Creek Fishing Park was officially opened this morning.
Located on P.G. Pulp Mill Road at the north end of Cameron Street Bridge, the park features accessible trails, interpretive signage, access to McMillan Creek and the Nechako River, a central green space, and a parking area that can accommodate large buses or RV's.
Phase one of the project consisted of construction to the park, Phase two safely connected the park to the Nechako River for users, and Phase 3 involved the construction of a lookout gazebo, overlooking the river and downtown.
Total project cost was $133,000, which included a $20,000 grant from the Pacific Salmon Foundation to help pay for the trees, interpretive signs and an educational kit for teachers or public groups to use to learn about the stream, fish, and habitat. Additionally, a generous community donation helped offset project costs.
