McBride mountain bike trails win government support

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations' recreation sites and trails branch has authorized the first phase of the Robson Valley Mountain Bike Association's trail development proposal, the provincial government said Wednesday.

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations' recreation sites and trails branch has authorized the first phase of the Robson Valley Mountain Bike Association's trail development proposal, the provincial government said Wednesday.

The plan calls for 18.6 kilometres of multi-purpose and cross-country mountain bike trails and five kilometres of downhill mountain bike trails on McBride Peak, three kilometres from the village McBride.

About 5.5 kilometres will consist of existing trails and former logging skid roads. Work on the trails will start next spring, and continue through the next two years during the phased, multi-year project.

The Robson Valley bike sssociation will be entering into a partnership agreement with Recreation Sites and Trails B.C. for long-term trail development, management and maintenance.

"The new trail system will expand and enhance non-motorized recreation opportunities in the Robson Valley," association president Ingrid Stengler said. "We hope the trails will encourage participation in mountain biking for people of all ages and abilities, promoting an active, fun lifestyle."
