Infrastructure investment will be a focus for the coming year.

Mayor Lyn Hall emphasized as much when providing a look during Monday night's city council meeting at what to expect in 2017.

Specifically, he highlighted the $4.2-million renovation of Masich Place Stadium. It will include a new synthetic turf infield, a consolidated jumps area, permanent throwing facilities and cages, and track resurfacing.

"That's a huge project that will start in the spring of the year," Hall said.

$3.2 million of the project's cost will come from the federal gas tax fund, $775,000 from the city, and $250,000 from NDIT.

What to do with the 50-year-old Four Seasons Pool will be a topic.

While still structurally sound, it has several drawbacks including poor accessibility, inadequate change rooms, unsafe deck tiles, and a lack of modern amenities, according to Hall's report to council.

The same can be said for Fire Hall No. 1, now 60 years old and a concern in terms of layout, condition and location.

Both will be topics during budget discussions Jan. 30 and Feb. 1.

"We've really taken a look at evaluating a number of our facilities within the community and I can't stress it enough will be really a core part of the work we do this year as a council," Hall said.
