A discarded cigarette caused the evacuation of the Pine Glen Apartments building on McIntyre Crescent in the early morning hours on Thursday.
Shortly after midnight fire crews were called to the three-story apartment building, and found residents evacuating the building.
Fire fighters quickly determined the fire was limited to a mattress in a main floor apartment.
Fire fighters removed the mattress, ventilated the smoke from the suite and allowed residents to return to their homes.
One person was treated on scene for smoke inhalation, but there was no other injuries.
A carelessly discarded cigarette was determined to the be the cause of the fire.
