The Prince George Citizen has handed over to the Independent Investigations Office the e-mails Greg Matters sent to the newspaper in the days leading up to his death following a 30-hour standoff with police.
Responsible for investigating fatal police-involved shootings, the IIO requested the e-mails in relation to the Sept. 10 incident at a home in the Pineview area.
In the e-mails, Matters had indicated he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of his 15 years of military service. He also expressed both fear of and anger at authorities, including the RCMP.
Asked Friday for her thoughts on her son in the lead up to Remembrance Day, Matters' mother, Lorraine, said she had to be careful about what she could say because the incident is still under investigation.
But she did say her son was "broken" when he left the military and in need of help.
IIO spokesman Owen Court said tthe findings will be made public as soon as the investigation is complete.
