A small plane has crashed just outside of Smithers.

At roughly 8:45 this morning (May 4), Victoria Joint Rescue Coordination Centre says they received an emergency notification from an emergency locator transmitter they say is registered to a Cessna 182 (a four-person capacity aircraft) roughly 50 miles north of Smithers landing.

The Facebook post by the Maritime Forces Pacific says a Cormorant Search and Rescue helicopter, as well as Buffalo Search and Rescue fixed-wing from 44 Transport and Rescue Squadron, were dispatched to the scene.

Another helicopter from Canadian Helicopters out of Smithers was sent and has found the crash site.

Buffalo Search and Rescue aircraft is on the station and the Cormorant is expected to arrive shortly.

More to come.
