Watch for the hatches on Sheridan Lake, and go down deep, is the advice for fishing Sheridan Lake. Sheridan Lake is heavily stocked with the Pennask strain of rainbow trout, and this helps to maintain an excellent sport fishery.

Although it can be busy, trout up to 5 pounds have come out of Sheridan Lake. All season, anglers can have luck with a black chironomid with a black beadhead. Your best bet may be to fish in the bays. Chironomid patterns such as a Tom Thumb are good to try in later afternoons.

There are good hatches on Sheridan Lake, and it would be worthwhile to spend some time investigating when you first head out. Use a strike indicator and go deep.

Good flies to try are a nymph such as a halfback or a 52 Buick. Another option is to try a Doc Spratley, using a full sink line.

Lures that work well in Sheridan Lake are larger Willow Leafs or Ford Fenders. A spoon such as a Crokodile in metallic perch, natural rainbow trout or fire / blackwing colours are popular. Some anglers swear by an E-Chip, trolled deep to attract the fish.

LAKE ACCESS

From 100 Mile House follow Highway 97 south to Highway 24 and turn left (east). Continue to the town of Sheridan Lake, about 30 kilometres to Sheridan Centre at the north-west corner of the lake.

There are several accommodation options around the lake, including three resorts. To learn more contact the South Cariboo Visitor Info Centre at (250) 395-5353.
