Manitoba RCMP have announced they are sending their underwater recovery team to scour a portion of the river near Gillam in the search for Kam McLeod and Bryer Schmegelsky.

Divers will arrive in Gillam tonight and start in the Nelson River tomorrow (Aug. 4).

The two are wanted on Canada-wide arrest warrants for the murder of Leonard Dyck, a university professor, near Dease Lake on July 19.

They are also suspects in the fatal shootings of Lucas Fowler and Chynna Deese, both international tourists, near Liard Hot Springs on July 15.

McLeod and Schmegelsky have not been seen since a confirmed sighting in Gillam on July 22, with authorities also finding a torched Toyota RAV4 that the pair were last seen driving in.

A community patrol believed it had spotted the teens at the York Landing landfill on July 28, but RCMP couldn't confirm the claim after a "thorough and exhaustive" search of the area.

More recently, Ontario Provincial Police have received dozens of unconfirmed reports from across the North, that place the pair in the province. The OPP has assigned an investigative unit to look into the claims.

Police say they’ve received dozens of reports from Kapuskasing, Iron Bridge, Cochrane and Sudbury, none of which bore fruit.
