One of two subjects of a firearms-related arrest in the parking lot of a local big box store is now out of custody.
Justus Leigh Colin Teasdale, 27, was sentenced Friday to time served and 18 months probation on counts of possessing a firearm contrary to an order, occupying a vehicle knowing a firearm is present and resisting arrest.
Teasdale had remained in custody since his arrest on January 14, 2021. Co-accused Thomas Joshua Toman, 23, remains in custody according to court records.
The two were arrested after Prince George RCMP's street crew unit noticed a rental vehicle that had been reported stolen and followed it to the Walmart at Westgate Shopping Centre where they surrounded the vehicle.
RCMP said they found a loaded 5.56 semi-automatic rifle at the driver’s feet and loaded and sawed-off shotgun under the passenger’s seat.
The magazine for the rifle had the pin drilled out and it was loaded with 23 rounds of ammunition, making it a prohibited item, RCMP also noted.
Police described the two as prolific offenders and said Toman had to be Tasered during the apprehension.
Teasdale was also issued a lifetime firearms prohibition and ordered to provide a DNA sample. The sentence also applies to counts personation to avoid arrest and resisting arrest from a December 12, 2020 incident.
