An RCMP decision to pull over a vehicle being driven without its headlights on has led to a term of probation for a local man.
Stephen James Sherman, 24, was sentenced Tuesday in Prince George provincial court to 18 months probation for theft of a vehicle and possession of a break-in instrument.
Sherman was the passenger in the vehicle which was pulled over on July 12, about five weeks after a vehicle went missing from a Buckhorn home.
He was found with tools believed to have been used in the offence as well as a small amount of methamphetamine, according to RCMP.
Sherman had remained in custody since his arrest, a stretch of 42 days.
The sentence, which also included $300 in victim surcharges, also applied to a conviction for possession of stolen property from an October 2015 incident.
