Man sentenced for sexual interference

A Fort St. James man was sentenced Friday in Supreme Court for sexual interference. The man, whose name can not be published to protect the identity of his victim, pleaded guilty to touching his school-aged daughter inappropriately.

The man, whose name can not be published to protect the identity of his victim, pleaded guilty to touching his school-aged daughter inappropriately. He received the sentence after a joint submission was recommended by both Crown and defence counsel.

The accused was sentenced to one day in jail, accounting for 405 days of time already served.

He also received three years of probation, is prohibited from owning firearms for 10 years and will be required to register with the sex offender registry for 20 years.

Various factors were highlighted to the court when sentencing was considered, including a family history of alcohol and violence.

Now 21 months sober since the incident, the man told the cournt he continues to take steps towards full recovery.
