A Prince George man has been sentenced to two years less a day for a short-lived attempt to make off with a three-ton cube van last summer.
Benjamin Job Nathan MacRae, 42, must also serve 18 months probation once out of custody under a sentence issued Thursday in Prince George provincial court.
MacRae was arrested during the morning of Aug. 29, 2014 about 10 minutes after RCMP were called to the Civic Centre where a man allegedly stole the van from the driver at knifepoint.
RCMP spotted the vehicle a few minutes later heading along Massey Drive and after allegedly ditching the vehicle and trying to flee on foot, the suspect was arrested.
MacRae has remained in custody since his arrest and, based on a factor of 1.5 for each day in custody prior to sentencing, received credit of 447 days time served. Consequently, his jail term will last a further 279 days.
