A 63-year-old man killed in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 97 near Bear Lake Saturday evening was not wearing a seat belt, police have determined.
Police believe the accident happened at about 7 p.m. Saturday, and have determined the man's southbound vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it failed to negotiate a corner and crashed into the ditch on the right side of the highway.
According to Prince George RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass, the man was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was deceased when police located his body. An RCMP traffic analyst and the B.C. Coroner Service was called to the scene.
RCMP have not yet released the man's identity and the investigation is continuing.
