A Prince George man will serve jail time for weapons convictions stemming from an incident at a 2013 high school post-graduation party outside of the city.
In February, Bryce Raymond Cote, 22, was found guilty of wearing brass knuckles while throwing a punch during a June 9, 2013 altercation at Kwitzil Lake (also known as Gravel Pit Lake) and then flashing the handle of a knife when his victim turned to confront him.
B.C. Supreme Court Justice Lisa Warren levied the sentence Tuesday at the Prince George courthouse.
During the three-day trial in mid-February, the court heard from witnesses that Cote launched an apparently unprovoked attack on Matthew Fillion, striking him in the jaw and, as he was backing away, lifting his shirt to flash the handle of a knife.
For charges of assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm, Cote will serve 171 days in jail and three years probation. He must also provide a DNA sample and pay a $200 victim surcharge.
Cote will also serve 111 days in jail and pay a $200 victim surcharge for knowingly possessing a weapon without a licence and carrying a prohibited or concealed weapon.
He received credit for six months served in jail for two counts of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts of breaching an undertaking for carrying brass knuckles and knife and being out past curfew.
