Man in custody after Cluculz Lake shooting

Two people were arrested and a man remains in police custody following an early-morning shooting New Year’s Day at a Cluculz Lake home.

Vanderhoof RCMP responded at about 4:30 a.m. Friday to a report of a shots being fired on a property on the 5700 block of Meier Road West. The RCMP North District Emergency Response Team was also sent to the scene.

The incident is believed to have stemmed from a verbal argument among several individuals in the house, which turned into a physical fight that led to a multiple shots fired. The shooter remained in the house with an associate, while others fled the scene and called police.

Knowing there was a firearm involved, front-line officers from the Vanderhoof RCMP set up a perimeter around the property while waiting for the North District ERT to arrive.

No injuries were reported.

Police arrested a 45-year-old man from Cluculz Lake and a 37-year-old Vanderhoof woman. The woman was later released while the man remains in jail possibly facing criminal charges.
