A Provincial Court judge in Prince George sentenced a man on Dec. 10 to two days time served for missing his curfew check.

Brendan Karan Singh Sandhu, born in 1999, pleaded guilty on May 3 to committing an indictable offence using an imitation firearm after an April 7, 2023 incident in Prince George. The Crown stayed charges for possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault and mischief under $5,000.

Sandhu was sentenced to one year to be served in the community, one year probation and a 10-year firearms ban.

On Nov. 6, a Prince George RCMP officer visited Sandhu’s residence at 1 a.m. for a curfew check. The officer knocked on the door multiple times, rang the doorbell three times and called Sandhu’s phone number. Sandhu did not respond and did not have permission to be outside his residence at the time.

The Crown was notified Nov. 14 of the breach. The next day, a warrant was issued for Sandhu’s arrest. He appeared in court Nov. 16.

In a joint submission by the Crown and defence, Judge Peter McDermick heard that Sandhu slept through the officer’s visit.

“This a first breach, he’s taking steps to address his (alcohol) addiction issues, and at the core of this is the breach,” McDermick said. “That he failed to present himself at the door to be in compliance with the order.”
