A Prince George man has been fined $1,000 after his dog got loose and attacked a passerby for the second time in less than a year.

Kerry Lowley was issued the penalty Friday in Prince George provincial court under the city's animal control bylaw.

In July 2016, his Rottweiler got out of his yard and bit a woman badly enough for her to need stitches. Then, in June 2017, the same dog attacked a man, also biting him in the arm.

In both cases the dog burst out of an alleyway between Johnson Street and Central Street East in the 3600 block.

Lowley initially denied it was his dog in the second incident, but never disputed the ticket. A lawyer appeared on his behalf for the hearing at the courthouse.

Since then, Lowley has taken steps to better contain the dog in his backyard, namely increase the height of the fence and improve the quality of the gates, something he admitted he should have done following the first incident, the court was told.

If the dog is found out creating problems once again, the city will seek to have the animal put down, the court was also told.
