Ubong David Awak, 34, of Vanderhoof faces seven charges as a result of Saturday's attempted carjacking in the Westgate Mall area, according to court records.
The charges include unlawful confinement or imprisonment, escape from lawful custody, assault, assaulting a police officer, mischief and two counts of willfully resisting or obstructing a police officer.
Prince George RCMP said officers showed up at Awak's place of work on Domano Boulevard at about 3:30 p.m. to arrest him on an outstanding warrant for theft under $5,000.
He was restrained but assaulted the officer, RCMP said, and then fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.
With the help of a tracking dog, he was found about a half-hour later but once again fled police, this time going across O'Grady Road into the Westgate Mall parking lot where he hopped into the back of a slow-moving vehicle and demanded the driving keep going.
Police officers blocked the vehicle and ordered the suspect to get out of the car.
When the suspect refused, the police service dog and handler removed the suspect from the car, when he was arrested and taken into custody.
Awak suffered a dog bite to his leg and was taken to the University Hospital of Northern B.C. for treatment.
A bail hearing is schedule for Awak today in Vanderhoof provincial court. Police are requesting he remain in custody.
