Charges have been approved against a man in relation to a fatal rollover.

Tyler Ian Curtis has been charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death and two counts of impaired driving causing death. He made a first appearance in Prince George provincial court on Wednesday, according to court records.

The charges stem from a Jan. 14, 2021 crash. Police were called to Foothills Boulevard at Flamingo Road, just south of Chief Lake Road in the Hart, at 6:30 p.m. and found a pickup truck in a ditch and lying on its roof.

Police said at the time that the passenger was found dead at the scene while the driver was found in a nearby snowbank and taken to hospital.

A nearby power pole had been sheared off leaving live hydro wires hanging down, delaying rescue of the passenger and leaving nearby homes without power for about three hours, police also said.

Meanwhile, Duane Glen Smith of Valemount faces sentencing on a count of dangerous driving causing death from a Sept. 11, 2019 crash on Highway 16 east of Prince George. Smith's girlfriend, Dakota Shaw, 21, died from injuries suffered in the crash.
