A Prince George man is facing charges after police saw him riding a stolen electric mobility aid, Prince George RCMP said Wednesday.

Jason Michael Rogers, 31, faces one count each of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and breach of an undertaking or recognizance and remained in custody as of Wednesday.

Rogers was arrested Tuesday after a general duty RCMP officer patrolling Redwood Street saw a man riding the three-wheeled vehicle, which had been stolen from an Upland Street home seven days before after a lock had been cut.

While the officer took Rogers to the detachment, a B.C. Hydro crew transported the trike.

Rogers, who has a long criminal record, also continues to face a charge of theft $5,000 or under from an alleged Jan. 4 incident.

He was last in the news in summer 2011 when he failed to return to his residence while on parole.

After three weeks on the lam, he was apprehended at Exhibition Park where an off-duty police officer saw him trying to steal a vehicle from the Aquatic Centre parking lot.

When the vehicle's owner got in the way, Rogers pulled out a knife and then fled towards CN Centre where he tried to commandeer another vehicle.

But the off-duty officer and some witnesses soon cornered him and he was arrested when on-duty police arrived soon after.

He was subsequently sentenced to 15 months in jail.
