Man charged following violent crime spree in University Heights

A Prince George man faces eight charges following a rash of attacks in the University Heights subdivision on Thursday evening, in which a hammer and a drain pipe were allegedly wielded.

Danial Stuart Sundman, 52, has been charged with three counts of robbery, two counts each of break and enter to commit an indictable offence and assault with a weapon and one count of assault causing bodily harm.

Prince George RCMP were called to the scene at 5:36 p.m. when they received a 911 call reporting a woman was struck with a hammer after she refused to hand over the keys to her car.

The man had entered the car while she was checking her mail near the entrance to the subdivision and she fled to a nearby home to call for help after being hit, police said.

Moments later, RCMP received a second 911 call saying a man punched a woman in the face after gaining entry into her home near where the first incident occurred and demanded her keys.

As police arrived at the scene, they received a third 911 call in which they were told a man struck another man with a drain pipe on Kinney Court, about a block away from the first two assaults before fleeing on foot.

Police brought in a dog who tracked a suspect towards the Davis Road area off Ospika Drive and at about 6:45 p.m. a homeowner flagged down an RCMP member to say a man had broken into his Bona Dea Drive home, off Davis Road.

At that scene, a suspect was arrested in the driveway while allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle. About a minute later, the police dog completed its track to the home.

"Indications were that he had entered the residence through a dog door before exiting and making his way to the vehicle," Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said. "Checks of the first and second victims' vehicles found they had damage to the ignition."

Sundman is known to police and the court. In October 2011 he was sentenced to 535 further days in jail for possession of a stolen weapon and to six months on possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000 from an incident in the same month.

Sundman remained in custody as of Friday.
