A senior citizen is under arrest on suspicion of stealing electricity for the running of a marijuana grow-operation.
The 77-year-old man was detained on Tuesday by members of the North District Integrated Marijuana Enforcement Task Force (NDIME) and Prince George RCMP detachment," said police spokeswoman Const. Lesley Smith. They executed a search warrant on a home on Eldon Road.
"Police located a small marijuana grow operation," she said. "The marijuana plants however had been recently harvested and all that remained was a small amount of marijuana leaf and stem material. Evidence in relation to the theft of electricity along with the marijuana grow equipment was seized."
The arrested elder is scheduled to appear in court on May 23.
"Members located a hydro bypass at this residence which was deemed a fire hazard," said Smith. "Despite the plants already being harvested, investigators were able to forward charges against [the suspect] and dismantle yet another marijuana grow operation."
The announcement came, coincidentally, on the same day provincial and RCMP officials announced NDIME's permanent continuation after a year-long pilot project located more than 70 grow-ops in the Cariboo region.
