The City of Prince George plans to spend nearly $10 million dollars in the coming months on dozens of road resurfacing projects.

City staff have identified 29 paving projects which will take place between May and October and include stretches of North Nechako Road, Dominion Street, 2nd Ave., and Tyner Blvd.

The majority of this year's record budget of $9.8 million comes from the city's road construction and improvement budget, but $2.7 million is from the community works fund.

Last year the city spent about $5.2 million on road projects, the previous record was $5.4 million set in 2012.

"During the budget process for 2014, Prince George city council decided to allocate unexpended community works funds on transportation related projects," city director of operations Bill Gaal said in a news release. "The city prioritized the available funds between improving gravel roads, local roads, and sidewalk projects."

If there are still funds available near the end of the 2014 construction season more projects could be added to the list.

"This project supports council's city government goals by maintaining sustainable infrastructure with the rehabilitation of city roads and the replacement of sidewalks," city manager Beth James said in a news release. "It also meets council's stated priority of identifying and funding the annual minimum infrastructure deficit."
