Prince George is hosting special events in the days ahead — the largest of which is the Special Olympics BC Summer Games — which will impact local traffic and access to some facilities.
From Thursday, July 10 to Saturday, July 12, several venues across the city, including the Civic Centre, the Aquatic Centre and Masich Place Stadium, will be the focal points for the multi-day event.
The main pool at the Aquatic Centre will be closed from 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 10 until approximately 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 12 for the competition, though the wave pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and gym will remain open to the public.
Additionally, public walking will not be available at Masich Place Stadium from 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 10 until 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 13.
Here are more details on the Special Olympics BC Summer Games schedule.
Other events this week include the Two Rivers Art Gallery’s Community Art Days, taking place in Canada Games Plaza on Friday, July 11 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event will feature art activities, live music, and more, and will coincide with Tourism Prince George’s Nanguz ‘An container market.
On Saturday, July 12, the PG Pride Festival and Market will take over downtown Prince George from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The parade will start at Ninth Avenue and Brunswick Street, continue along Brunswick Street to Fourth Avenue, then onto George Street before finishing at Veteran’s Plaza at city hall, where the market will be held. Drivers are advised to avoid the area to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.
For those attending events this week, free parking is available all day at city-owned lots and parkades on weekends and after 5 p.m. on weekdays.
The city’s website has a map of downtown parking options and up-to-date information on traffic and pedestrian disruptions.
