It was a battle of man versus machine on Saturday afternoon during the Go By Bike Man vs Machine Challenge.
The Go By Bike Week promotion saw four competitors start at city hall while making their way through downtown, going up 15th Avenue, and finishing on Ospika Boulevard in front of Rainbow Park. The competitors had to make four stops along the way collecting tickets at different locations.
Taking up the "machine" part of the challenge were Mayor Lyn Hall, who was riding a motorcycle, and Councillor Kyle Sampson, who was driving an SUV.
The "man" competitors in the challenge were Ron Gallo, who was riding a 16lb full-carbon Specialized S-Works Venge pedal bike, and Jacob Mullen, who was riding a 40lb Kona e-bike.
After making the four stops it was Mayor Hall crossing the finish line first with a time of approximately 15 minutes with Councillor Sampson finishing less than a minute behind. Third place belonged to Ron Gallo who finished in approximately 20 minutes and last place was Jacob Mullen who finished with a time of approximately 24 minutes.
Go By Bike Week starts on May 31 to June 6 and its meant to encourage people to ride their bikes as much as possible during that week whether its riding to work or school, or just getting outside for some exercise.
