Lots of snow in the city

About 15 centimetres (six inches) of snow fell overnight in downtown Prince George. Outlying areas at higher elevations may have gotten more.

About 15 centimetres (six inches) of snow fell overnight in downtown Prince George. Outlying areas at higher elevations may have gotten more.

According to Environment Canada the big dump came from "an intense Pacific frontal system" that blew in on Friday and carried on throughout the weekend.

The amount of snow was such a big, sudden portion that Environment Canada saw fit to issue a weather warning at the start of it all. Although not a record-setting event, it was nonetheless expected to cause driving hazards and disrupt daily life for residents all across the northern half of the province. The warning was rescinded by Sunday morning.

For the next few days, small amounts of snow (up to five centimetres) were still expected to come down in spot flurries. Temperatures were forecasted to warm up through the week, but higher winds were also expected so fears of frostbite were still being expressed by the national weather agency. There is even a possibility of rain by Thursday.

Long-range forecasts change frequently so regular check-ins are with the Environment Canada website are recommended.
