Money really does grow on trees, just check out the loonie trees during the Handy Circle Resource Centre's loonie auction, which takes place Oct. 19, 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at AiMHi, 950 Kerry Street.
"This is our major fundraiser and proceeds will go to our programs for people with disabilities and special needs," said Lorraine Young, Handy Circle Resource Centre director. Last year's event raised about $2,500 and they are hoping to beat that this year.
There's more than 165 items up for grabs, including lamps, gift baskets, loonie trees, chocolate loonie trees, artwork from Kathryn Rohl-Rickman and other artists, and even a wireless weather forecaster.
To get into the auction action a participant buys as many tickets for a loonie each as they wish, then they can browse all the items, determine which they would like to try their luck at and put as many tickets into the loonie bag beside the item they want.
It's up to the luck of the draw then.
There's two days of browsing before the auction draws begin Sunday at 2 p.m.
The winners of the draws will take home the items.
