A minor derailment at CN Rail's Prince George yard off of First Avenue caused a temporary disruption to rail operations on Sunday.

The incident involving a switching engine and stationary train took place around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, CN Rail spokesperson Kelli Svendsen said.

"While conducting routine switching operations a yard locomotive sideswiped a stationary train," Svendsen said. "The locomotive derailed upright. There was no injuries, no loss of diesel [and a] minor impact to operations."

The yard locomotive was moved back onto the rails later that evening, she said. Damage to the locomotive and train was minor.

The cause of the collision is under investigation, Svendsen said. Svendsen could not comment on if the yard locomotive was being controlled remotely at the time of the derailment.
