Prince George RCMP had rash of snowmobile thefts Tuesday and are advising owners to ensure machines and trailers are secured and inside, if possible.
"Thieves scout targets and come prepared with the proper tools," Cpl. Craig Douglass
media liaison officer, reminds owners.
The first theft, reported about 8 a.m., involved two stolen snowmobiles and a trailer from Big Fir Road in Beaverly. But shortly after, one of the machines was found abandoned in an open pit near 3600, Highway 16 West. The second snowmobile was recovered in the area shortly after that.
The second theft, around 3 p.m., involved two snowmobiles on a trailer near College Heights Pub.
A resident witnessed the theft and reported it to police who attended and were given a description of the suspect vehicle which was soon intercepted on Ferry Avenue. Both machines were recovered and returned to the owner.
A 44-year-old man from Red Rock was arrested by police who found a small amount of crack cocaine on the accused and a can of bear spray in the vehicle.
Charges of theft over $5000, possession of break-in instruments and possession of a controlled substance are being recommended. Two other male suspects that were seen assisting in the theft, were not located. The Prince George RCMP are requesting the public's help in locating these two suspects.
Anyone with information about these criminal offences or those responsible are asked to contact the RCMP at 250-561-3300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-222-TIPS (8477).
