"It was so exciting but I didn't believe my husband at first," Conway said. "He always jokes around so he didn't tell me for the first 10 or 15 minutes after I got home. He was very non-chalant and I thought he was joking."

She plans to use the money to buy a hot tub at Eden Spas.

"I thought that was something my whole family could enjoy," Conway said.

In all, more than 60 Prince George businesses participated in the campaign to shop locally.

"The response from the community and from the businesses was phenomenal," Citizen publisher Colleen Sparrow said. "It's was such a good way to promote Prince George and everything it has to offer. I love our local stores."
