A Prince George woman is $500,000 richer after winning the bonus prize for B.C. Lottery Corporation's Daily Grand lottery.

Melinda Voss caused quite a stir in her home when she discovered she had won.

"I screamed and started yelling 'Oh my God! Oh my God,'" Voss said in a BCLC press release. "Even my golden retriever started to get excited because I kept yelling 'Oh my God!'"

Voss's win came in Thursday's draw. She had the choice of taking a prize of $25,000-a-year for life or a lump sum of $500,000.

Voss chose the $500,000 because she wants to use her winnings right away to help her family.

"I'm excited because I really want to help out my mom," Voss said. "Then I'm going to set up a fund so my children and grandchildren are set up for the future."

Thursday's draw included five bonus draws of five numbers each. Voss's ticket matched all five numbers from one of those draws. The odds of that happening are one in 1.9 million.

The winning ticket was purchased at Foothills Foods.
