The teen librarian at The Prince George Public Library was recognized for extraordinary service during the B.C. Library Conference in Richmond on Thursday.

Heather Gloster was acknowledged with the Young Adult and Children's Service Award mainly for her work with the P.G. Youth Custody Centre Creative Writing Program established in the fall of 2015.

The project was an introduction to writing and editing.

Youth explored how to edit their own work and how to write rap lyrics.

Glouster also brings books from the library for participants to borrow.

Recipients of the award are recognized for their exemplary service to children, teens, caregivers and supporting organizations who work in collaboration with their community using creativity and innovation to benefit young people.

For the local library, this is the fourth award from the B.C. Library Association.

In 2013-14, the former teen librarian Amy Dawley was honoured for the Library Gay-Straight Alliance and the library was also honoured for their marketing strategy in the same year as well as for advocacy in 2011-12.
