UPDATE: Fire near Fraser Lake 50 per cent contained as Local State of Emergency is lifted, evacuation order downgraded

Evacuation Alert also lifted this evening as Lejac fire continues to burn

The B.C. Wildfire Service has made progress on the Lejac wildfire.

According to firefighters, the 236-hectare blaze is now 50 per cent contained five-kilometres east of the Village, in which 30 per cent of that is guarded by natural fuel break.

The fire, believed to be human-caused is still 70 per cent guarded since Sunday night's update.

The Local State of Emergency issued Saturday (May 11) has since been lifted and the Evacuation Order is downgraded to an Alert for the area south of Highway 16 to south of Roys Lake; west and east of Seaspunkut 4 (Lejac).

The Evacuation Alert for residents living south of Highway 16 to south of Klez Lake and east of Drywilliam Lake has been taken off entirely.

Its cause is still under an investigation.

8 p.m. (May 12)

Some good news tonight (May 12) for residents living near Fraser Lake.

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako (RDBN) has lifted its Local State of Emergency as of 8 p.m. this evening after progress was made today on the Lejac wildfire burning five-kilometres east of the Village.

The B.C. Wildfire Service has also resized the blaze to 236 hectares, but, according to its website, it's still 70 per cent guarded and zero per cent contained.

The Evacuation Order issued has been downgraded to an Alert for the area south of Highway 16 to south of Roys Lake; west and east of Seaspunkut 4 (Lejac).

Meanwhile, the Evacuation Alert has been taken off entirely for residents living south of Highway 16 to south of Klez Lake and east of Drywilliam Lake.

Crews are still working at the fire, which is believed to be human-caused, with 30 firefighters, three helicopters, and 15 pieces of heavy equipment live on the scene.
