The Fraser Institute released its annual ranking of B.C. secondary schools on Sunday, showing Prince George's schools performed below the provincial average.

Cedar's Christian School was the top-ranked school in the city - coming in 85th out of 256 schools ranked. D.P. Todd secondary school was the top-ranked public school at 120th of 256.

Prince George secondary school was the lowest-ranked school in the city, at 225th out 256.

College Heights secondary, Kelly Road secondary, Duchess Park secondary and Mackenzie secondary ranked in the lower end of the pack -from 154 to 191 of 256.

The rankings are based on a number of factors, including average FSA exam marks, graduation rates and precentage of exams failed.

The full rankings can be found online by going to britishcolumbia.compareschoolrankings.org.

The B.C. Teachers' Federation has been a long-time opponent of the FSA tests and the Fraser Institute's ranking system.

"These tests assess only a very narrow and superficial slice of the curriculum, but they take on exaggerated importance when... the Fraser Institute misuses the results to rank schools," BCTF president Susan Lambert said.

Education experts across Canada have decried the rankings, along with all education partners in B.C. - not just the teachers' federation, Lambert said. Even Premier Christy Clark, when she was education minister, was in opposition to the rankings, she added.
