A roofer was fined $1,250 for unsafe conditions at a Prince George worksite.

Essential Exterior Finishers was issued the levy Jan. 19 after a WorkSafeBC inspector noticed two employees working without fall protection.

They were working on the flat roof of a two-storey apartment building, recapping the roof after it had recently been re-torched.

"Upon WorkSafeBC's arrival, both workers were kneeling at the edge of the roof, but one worker was later observed standing up at the roof edge," WorkSafeBC said in an online posting.

The workers were exposed to a 7.6 m (25 ft.) fall.

"No fall protection plan was available on site, and the plan provided by the firm later did not adequately address the fall hazards or rescue procedures," WorkSafeBC said. "The firm failed to have an adequate written fall protection plan in place."

It was also a repeat violation.

In April 2014, the business was fined $5,000 for a similar reason.
