Prince George residents are asked to put their money where their mouth is during the second annual Eating Out for Youth Education event Thursday, Nov. 15.
There are 14 Prince George restaurants that invite patrons to come into their establishments as they donate 10 per cent of that day's revenue to the Northern HIV and Health Education Society, a non-profit society that facilitates health education for about 2,000 youth in Grades 5 to 12 and young adults.
The restaurants are Amigo's Taco Shop, Cafe Voltaire in Books & Co., College Heights 2 for 1 Pizza, Fortune Palace, Hummus Brothers Tapas Bar, JD's Kitchen and Catering, Margo's Caf, Pita Pit College Heights, Quiznos Spruceland, Spicy Greens in the Hart, Sushi Factory Sendo, Taco Del Mar, Twisted Cork, and Wendy's Restaurants.
The Northern HIV and Health Education Society is not funded by School District 57 or Northern Health Authority.
"People talk about stretching a dollar - we have nearly reinvented the manufacture of copper wire by stretching every penny to the max," said Mary Jackson, executive director and educator for the society. "Even though in Canada HIV is considered to be a chronic disease, rather than a death sentence, an ounce of prevention is still worth a pound of cure. Knowledge and skills are still needed to prevent infection. We really appreciate all the restaurant's support as well as all who will eat out on Thursday."
