During the 11th annual Variety Radiothon, Prince George and Vanderhoof raised $77,126.
The funds will go to local families with children who have special needs and will help cover expenses not covered by provincial or private healthcare plans.
The two-day fundraiser was broadcast on Country 97 FM and 94.3 the GOAT in Prince George, and Valley Country in Vanderhoof. Several local businesses, including the Prince George Citizen, were also sponsors of the telethon.
"We are completely overjoyed," said Bernice Scholten, executive director of Variety - The Children's Charity. "We've seen over the years how deeply the notion of families helping families is valued in Prince George and this year only serves to confirm that in spades. And to our supporters in Vanderhoof, thank you for being an integral part of the success of the Radiothon this year. The funds raised here stay here to help more families with children who have special needs, giving them the support they need to achieve their own little victories and be the champions we believe them to be."
