Local man faces stolen property charges

An 18-year-old Prince George man is facing several charges as a result of a police raid on a Crescents neighbourhood home earlier this month, Prince George RCMP said Tuesday.

Crown prosecutors have approved one count each of break and enter and possession of stolen property over $5,000 and three counts of trafficking in stolen property over $5,000 against Nathan Wayne Sandbach.

The charges come after Prince George RCMP's crime reduction team, with help from the downtown enforcement unit, executed a search warrant April 5 on a Laurier Crescent home and uncovered several allegedly stolen items.

They include an oxy-acetylene torch, a portable generator and a dozen paintball guns reported stolen from local businesses in February and March, as well as a .22 calibre rifle reported stolen from a Simon Fraser Avenue home in September 2007.

Sandbach also continues to face charges of break and enter, theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property from a February incident in Quesnel.

And he faces a charge of breach of an undertaking or recognizance with police alleging Sandbach twice failed to present himself at the door in late March when RCMP were carrying out an early-morning curfew check at his Edmonton Street home.

Sandbach has since been released on a recognizance with conditions and a $2,000 deposit and is next scheduled to appear in court on May 1.

Police also said a significant quantity of marijuana and drug trafficking paraphernalia were located at the Laurier Crescent home and are recommending charges against a 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old man, both from Prince George.

Both were released with conditions until their first court appearance on June 12.
