RCMP are recommending several charges against a 23-year-old Prince George man following an alleged confrontation with police and firefighters near 100 Mile House over an illegal campfire.
RCMP said Monday members of the Deka Lake Fire Dept. were called to the scene on Friday at about 8:30 p.m.
When they told the man a ban was in place against campfires because of concern about forest fires, he became abusive towards then and then tried unsuccessfully to flee in the fire truck, RCMP said.
Members of the 100 Mile House RCMP were called in and the man grabbed a chainsaw, starting it up and using it in a threatening manner toward police before he was pepper sprayed and arrested with a struggle.
RCMP are seeking charges of assault, assault with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and breach of probation.
The man's name was not released because charges have not yet been laid. As of Monday, he remained in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
