Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Emmaus House, a senior supportive housing unit, hosts an open house Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

This special event includes a tour of the ten-unit facility operated on a not-for-profit basis by Emmaus Place Society. Guest speakers include Minister Shirley Bond and acting Mayor Frank Everitt.

Emmaus House was established at 6373 Hillcrest Place in Prince George on Feb. 1, 2002 to meet two primary needs of seniors; a healthy food services plan and a way to prevent the isolated lifestyle many seniors experience when living independently.

The Emmaus Place Society maintains a family atmosphere and offers tertiary care with several staff members on hand while volunteers interact with residents on a daily basis.

Each resident has a private room and meals are eaten together. There is an option to spend time socializing by playing games, enjoying the view, watching movies, going on excursions together, going for walks or picnicking in the backyard with family and friends.

Refreshments will be served at the open house.
