Initiatives Prince George and nine local employers will be in Vancouver today to sell Lower Mainland residents on living and working in Prince George.
Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters is holding a job fair in Vancouver to connect unemployed and underemployed workers in the Lower Mainland with job opportunities in northern B.C.
A total of 20 northern B.C. employers will be at the job fair, Initiatives Prince George interim CEO Heather Oland said.
"It's the companies' role to sell their job opportunities; it's our role to sell the community," Oland said.
"Some of the highlights are real estate prices... and low commutes. We don't spend our time commuting back and forth to work."
The job fair is expected to draw up to 750 electricians, carpenters, plumbers, pipefitters, machinists, drivers, heavy equipment operators and other skilled workers.
Initiatives Prince George will be working hard to tell those attendees about the wide range of recreational, arts and culture, sports and education opportunities available here, Oland said.
"You need to be thinking about the whole family," Oland said Wednesday.
"We'll have a really good idea after tomorrow what messages resonate with people."
Local employers taking part include the Northern B.C. Construction Association, Canfor, BID Group, Northern Steel, Geotech Drilling Services, Allnorth Consultants, Wolftek Industries, E.B. Horsman and Son, Acklands-Grainger and Finning Canada.
