Local cadets will be heading to the provincial drill competition after taking top spot in the zones held in Prince George earlier this month.

From 396 City of Prince George Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron (RCACS), 11 cadets between the ages of 12 and 18 led by Cadet WO2 Christopher Evasin will compete in Chilliwack on May 14.

Cadets from 353 Mile Zero RCACS from Dawson Creek also competed during the zones.

"The drill competition is fantastic, and such a challenge," said Evasin, in a recent news release. "It is something you feel proud about when you get to the competition knowing that the team worked really hard for the past six months."

During the competition each group completes a compulsory preset routine on command and then a routine created by the cadets.

Each squadron will be judged on adherence to the Canadian Forces Drill Manual as a group and individually.

The RCACS look to develop good citizenship, leadership while promoting physical fitness and stimulate youth's interest in the Canadian Armed Forces. The programs are offered by the Department of National Defence, the Canadian Armed Forces, partnering with the Navy League, Army and Air Cadet Leagues of Canada.
