A local cadet was top in her platoon during a six-week course at the Vernon Cadet Training Centre.

Emily McBride, a member of the Rocky Mountain Rangers of Prince George, was recognized for her excellent performance in 2 Platoon.

McBride was one of 85 cadets who attended the Drill and Ceremonial Instructor (Army) course this summer.

Cadets were expected to perfect their own drill and then teach younger cadets at their home base.

During the cadet training, McBride learned to form quarter guards and provide flag parties for parades.

As part of the final parade and sunset ceremony cadets participating in the course formed the Guard and fired the Feu de Joie, which is a quick sequence of blank rounds.

Cadets contribute to their communities with a focus on environment, citizenship and local activities.
