Prince George business Bragg Construction Ltd. was fined $9,281.35 by WorkSafeBC after one of its workers sustained serious injuries in a fall.

According to a posting on the WorkSafeBC website, the worker was installing floor joists on the first floor of a house under construction when a joist attachment gave way.

The worker subsequently fell 3.2 m (10.5 ft.) through an unguarded opening onto the gravel basement floor below.

"WorkSafeBC's investigation found that even though fall protection equipment had been available on site, the worker had not been using a personal fall protection system," the agency said in the posting.

"The firm failed to ensure that fall protection was used for a location where a fall of 3 m (10 ft.) or more could take place."

It was a "repeated and high-risk violation," WorkSafeBC added.

The fine was imposed on Dec. 16 and posted in the WorkSafeBC website on Feb. 29.
