Local broadcasters win awards

Local radio station wins several awards in broadcasting excellence while Dave Barry takes a lifetime achievement award.

CBC’s local Daybreak North has received West Region awards for excellence in digital and broadcast journalism from the Radio Television Digital News Association.

Broadcasters are recognized in dozens of categories with the regional awards divided into the East, West, Central and Prairie regions. Winners from each region now compete for national honours announced at the virtual RTDNA Canada 2021 National Conference & Awards Gala on Thursday, June 3.

West Region winners from CBC Daybreak North are in audio, best podcast, They & Us, CBC Prince George; excellence in sound, Halloween Apples! CBC Prince George and in digital, Breaking News (small/medium market), Deadly Motel Fire in Prince George, CBC Prince George.

Dave Barry, who spent 30 years in broadcasting in Prince George and most recently at CKPG, was presented with the 2021 RTDNA Canada Lifetime Achievement Award.

Congratulations to all the winners and especially to those from Prince George.
